Vacuum-Tips-New-Year

Tips on how to vacuum, who would possibly need that – you plug the thing in and push right? You’d be amazed how much dirt and allergens get left behind, even with the most high-end device, when you don’t vacuum properly. Here are ten vacuuming tips to keep your home cleaner than ever in the New Year.

– Less dirt means less mess. Put mats in the entrances of your home and enforce a no-shoe policy to prevent further debris from getting into your home. The less dirt there is the easier it is for you to vacuum.

– Have a schedule when it comes to vacuuming. Depending on the amount of traffic in your home, usually once a week will do. If you have a pet that sheds, two times a week should do it.

– Get rid of impacted debris by vacuuming your carpet from different angles. If you normally start vacuuming on a particular side of the room approach it from the opposite side.

– Don’t ignore corners and crevices. Those overlooked places are going to have the most buildup of dust and debris. Put those attachment tools to work!

– Vacuum with slow overlapping strokes. This will help remove up to 85% more dust and allergens.

– Replace/Empty your vacuum bag or canister when it’s two-thirds full. This will help avoid clogs and improve your vacuums overall suction.

– Be sure to dust first then vacuum. The allergens that are spread after dusting will end up on your floor and carpet. By vacuuming second you ensure a more thorough cleaning!

– Don’t vacuum objects that will cause clogs. Items such as pennies, paperclips, marbles and more can put a strain on your vacuum and cause serious issues. A broken hose, loss of suction, or even motor failure are just some of the many things that can happen.

– Want fresher smelling carpets? Spread baking soda over your carpet and let it sit for a half an hour, then vacuum normally. Your carpet will smell fresh and your vacuum will get a good cleaning as well.

– Maintain your vacuum. The more TLC you give your vacuum the longer it’ll last and more optimally it will perform. Regularly clean and change your filters every 3 -6 months, remove hair from your brush roll and replace your belt every 3 months.
