Spring is in the air. It’s a time of renewal, a time of new beginnings and a time for spring cleaning, especially after this long cold winter. Don’t let your home linger with the winter blues by using these helpful cleaning tips from Crucial Vacuum. Time to breakout your vacuum attachments and let’s get to work.
Warm Weather Clothes are a Go!
Let’s start by organizing your closets. Do you need that heavy winter coat anymore, how about these scarfs? Nah, it’s spring! Its time for light jackets, t-shirts and all things warm weather related.
Take all of your winter clothes and do one of two things with them. Use storage bins and store them in an out of the way place such as an attic, or basement. Be sure they are sealed properly to keep your clothing’s integrity. Two, move them to the far side, or back of the closet and bring your warm weather clothing to the front.
Streak Free Windows
You’ve been staring out your window all winter looking at the cold grey days as they pass. Now things are looking green and it’s time to wash these windows. Windows should be washed twice a year ideally. You can easily make an organic cleaning solution that will leave your windows streak free by mixing equal parts white vinegar and water. Take in the view after you’re done.
Sliding Door Tracks
The sliding tracks that most of your backdoors are on are a highly overlooked area of your home when it comes to cleaning. All winter long you’ve been tracking in debris, gravel and its left quite a lot of build up in your door way. Use a paper towel with some Windex and scrub away any tough stains. Afterwards break out your vacuums attachment and hose to remove any of the loose debris. Finally, wipe away with a wet sponge.
You’ve probably been cooking a lot of hardy meals all winter, but now that spring is here it’s time to de-clutter and give your kitchen a deep clean. Go through your cabinets and drawers. Throw away any food that has expired. Wipe down your cabinets and the insides of drawers with a simple cleaning solution.
While you’re at it clean your sink as well. Pour a cup of baking soda and a cup of vinegar into your sinks drain to give it a thorough cleaning. Let it sit for a few hours then it flush it with boiling water.
Bust out your vacuum and get those attachments working for you again. Clean under your refrigerator, and other kitchen appliances. Unplug and move them if need be to get a thorough cleaning. There’s going to be a lot of dust built up from the winter.
Do the same for your bathroom sink and drawers as well.
Gutters are an essential part to keeping your home’s foundation from being damaged by countless gallons of water per year. When you’re in spring cleaning mode it’s crucial that your gutters are clog free and able to do their job. Grab a pair of thick gloves and a ladder and get to work. If you’re afraid of heights like I am you may want to pay someone to do this, or swindle a neighbor into doing it for you. Focus on the areas where the spouts are and be sure to remove any large clogs.
Needless to say there are a variety of places other than the sliding tracks to your door that will be overlooked as you’re going through your house spring cleaning. Be sure to give these areas a once over:
- Walls – Dust them with a vacuum brush then wipe clean with a rag.
- Baseboards – Dust them with a cloth.
- Screens – Remove them and spray them outside with a hose, allow to fully dry before placing back into the window.
- Ceiling Fans – Dust carefully and wipe fully clean before turning on.
We’ve all made it out of these cold winter months and plenty of good times are ahead.
