5 Clean Hack Tips: Back to College Edition

5 Cleaning Tips for College Students

If you haven’t already checked into college, it’s crunch time to figure out how to survive without your parents. Habits formed in college foreshadow habits for your future, at least that’s true for all of us here at Crucial Vacuum. Although cleaning is the last item on your mind when going off to college, it is a necessary chore that is now solely reliant on you. Our Crucial team has compiled clean hacking tips and tricks from our experiences in college to help you easily transition into a independent college student.

Mr Clean Magic Eraser

1. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser are the best way to get those unknown stains off your surfaces. We’ve all used them in college when those mysterious stains accumulated because we decided to ignore them. The Magic Erasers replace both a sponge and cleaning agent and they are easy to find at local convenience stores however they can get pricy. Our recommendation to make the Magic Erasers last longer is to cut them to size depending on what you need to clean.

Clorox Wipes
2. Dorm rooms aren’t known to be spacious. The last item you want taking up space is probably cleaning products. Clorox wipes are great because they are disinfectants, plus you can use them on several surfaces. We at Crucial Vacuum are in unison that these were and still are to date the only product we use daily to clean. They can clean and disinfect your microwave and clean dirt off of your sneakers.

3. The one product readily available at college can make the best cleaning agent just by mixing it with water. What product are we talking about? Vodka. By mixing 1 parts vodka with 2 parts of water makes a all purpose cleaner. It works great on glass surfaces and mirrors and the smell disappears as it dries, although in college you could just blame it on your roommate.

shout_wipes4. If you are messy or avoid doing your laundry, Shout wipes will be your best friend. Before you throw your dirty clothes into the basket, scrub the Shout Wipe against it to get rid of the stain. Then by the time you get around to doing your laundry, your clothes will be free from stains. You can also carry some around in your backpack to prepare for any accidents.

Swiffer Wet Jet

5. The last clean hack is with the product that should be in every home with bare floors even if it’s just the kitchen, a Swiffer Wet Jet. Although it is priced higher than the regular Swiffer, if you constantly find your socks dirty from your floors, invest in the Wet Jet version. It is so easy to clean with and it does a great job.

Of course we would recommend a vacuum however they’re just too bulky to have in a college dorm or apartment. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to leave a comment below or email us at support@crucialvacuum.com. We would love to hear about your experiences!

Find the Best Vacuum Cleaner For Your Needs!

Best Vacuum For Your Needs

Finding the best vacuum cleaner is difficult in our overly advertised world.

One company is showing a sleek new look while the other is stating how lightweight their vacuum is. Of course every vacuum cleaner company states that they have the best suction using their “technology” however the real proof is in the actual breakdown of how it functions. Every company can say their vacuum is the best compared to the rest, but before you spend your hard earned money, is the vacuum you are looking into ideal for your home?

Baby with a Vacuum

Many factors should impact your decision when choosing the perfect vacuum.

The first is the type of floors you have. The second includes any additional environmental factors, such as pets, or noise. The final factor is the price range you are comfortable spending. You may be surprise, or maybe not, that although we don’t sell vacuum cleaner units, we get this question often. We’ve compiled an unbiased list of vacuum cleaners. The struggle of choosing a vacuum cleaner is a thing of the past!

Best Vacuum Cleaner Overall:

Top Pick: The Dyson DC65 is sleek in design and lives up to the hype that follows the Dyson name. The Dyson DC65 self-adjusts from carpet to hardwood using an active base-plate. It automatically raises and lowers to maintain constant suction with the floor. Then the redesigned brushroll with shorter and stiffer bristles allow for a deeper carpet clean. At the retail price of $599.99, it’s a purchase not to be taken lightly, however the DC65 has earned the reputation to be the best overall vacuum cleaner.
Best Value: The Shark Navigator Lift-Away Professional Upright NV370 at $199.99 is a great value for it’s price. The Shark Navigator uses it’s guaranteed “Never Loses Suction” technology fueled by a high speed dust cup design and HEPA filter. By spinning air at a high speed in the extra large dust cup, it keeps the debris away from the filter, thus maintaining constant suction. In addition with the dust away hard floor attachment, the Shark NV370 is a great, cost efficient overall vacuum cleaner.

Best Vacuum For Hardwood Floors:

Top Pick: The Miele S2121 is ideal for hardwood floors with its six-stage suction power and its bare floor attachment. Although it is a canister vacuum, the S2121 comes with a telescopic stainless steel wand for a 29.5 feet radius clean. Miele’s reputation for manufacturing superior vacuum cleaners continues with this lower priced, light weight option.
Best Value: Hoover Linx BH50010 at $159 is a affordable and lightweight option for hardwood floors. With Hoover’s signature Windtunnel technology and cordless mobility, the Hoover Linx is a great solution to pet hair and those tough stairs. Plus to add even more value, the Linx is bagless with an easy to remove dust cup canister.

Best Vacuum For Carpets:

Top Pick: The Dyson DC41 is not only comes with Dyson’s patented and coveted technology but comes in several colors to fit your personality and decor. This vacuum isn’t one that you’ll want to stick in the closet. The DC41 captures allergens down to 0.5 microns in size with it’s cyclone technology. Then the bagless dirt bin is easily emptied with a push of the button to ensure debris ends up in the trash and not on your hands.
Best Value: The Shark Navigator Lift-Away Professional Upright NV356E has been stirring quite a storm in the vacuum industry for it’s value. It’s never lose suction technology has proven to be justified. This Navigator provides a powerful suction to pick up dust, and debris, especially pet hair. And at $179.99 it’s worth it!

Best Quiet Vacuum:

Top Pick: The Miele S8390 proves that a louder vacuum does not mean more power. With it’s six stage suction technology to provide the correct level of power and it’s fix level heigh adjustment, the Miele S8 provides the most quiet and effective clean.
Best Value: The Shark Rotator Lift-Away Professional Upright NV502 is advertised as lightweight and ultra-quiet and it proves accurate. With it’s never lose suction technology, it sucks up dirt and pet hair so easily you’ll have to empty the dust cup twice.

Best Vacuum For Pets:

Top Pick: The Dyson DC65 features powerful suction with a self-adjusting cleaner head to ensure no gap between the cleaner head and it’s surface. Pet hair and debris is picked up using Dyson’s cyclone technology and redesigned shorter and stiffer brush bar.
Best Value: The Hoover T-Series Windtunnel Pet Rewind Bagless Upright Vacuum, UH70210 is an affordable vacuum at $129.00. Featuring a 5 position carpet adjustment, it can easily adjust to match your floor level. It picks up dust and pet hair with ease and included is a upholstery tool to pull stubborn pet hair from your furniture.

Cleaning Pet Hair

Cleaning Pet HairI love my pets! I have two that are the sweetest, kindest, and most adorable little balls of fur. As much as I love playing with them, petting them, and having them part of my life, I hate the hair. It’s everywhere! I find pet hair on my carpets, furniture, and clothes. I’ve tried those lint rollers to pull clean the hard-to-get pet hair off my clothes and furniture, but it doesn’t do much.

Dander is sticky and helps fur stick to places we don’t want it. The more your pet cleans himself, the stickier the hair. Cats are exceptionally clean and their hair doesn’t budge unless it’s sticking to freshly laundered clothes. But there is a solution to cleaning up after little balls of fur. The Gonzo Pet Hair Lifter works for both cats and dogs! Even better, it is reusable and easy. Continue reading »

We Passed! Crucial Vacuum’s Filters Were Put to The Test

Recently, Crucial Vacuum sent some of our fabulous reusable vacuum filters to the folks over at Vacuum Wizard. We wanted them to see just how our handy washable filters stack up against the competition.

They put our replaceable filters through a series of tests and compared their performance to some typical manufacturers replacement filters. We must say, we are very pleased with the results.

Vacuum Wizard tested the original performance of both filters and then tested our washable filters again after they were washed. They found that our reusable filter worked just as well as Eureka’s disposable filter. Of course, we already knew it would, but we are glad they noticed.

Vacuum Wizard also found that our filters were easy to wash and reuse and that they worked just as well the second, third, and fourth time around. We are so proud!

One more major perk that the test revealed about our filters? They save you money! Who doesn’t like saving money? In fact, the reviewer estimated a savings of about $13 in 6 months. Those savings could add up quickly!

We love that Vacum Wizard liked our filters and appreciate the feedback. Thanks guys!

We always love getting feedback from our customers, too.
